And Like That, Poof. It's Gone.
You only have yourself to blame if you're not keeping a constant, vigilant watch over your food if there are pugs nearby.

Pugo

Sunny has the softest ears ever! Rosy's are soft too, but Sunny still holds the softest ears title. Sunny also has pretty large ears for a pug, which my sister is always pointing out. Something about those big, velvety ears lure everyone to them, especially when she's got her relaxed, wrinkle-free dome head going on. And so of course her large ears made me think of another adorable, rotund, and big-eared character!

Winter Blues
I don't know what it is but I've got a bad case of the winter blues lately. Maybe it's seasonal affective disorder, job anxiety/dissatisfaction, poor sleeping habits, polar vortex frustration, general ennui, or a combination of all of the above. Bah.
(P.S. My photo editing app updated and now I can't figure out how to touch up my drawings the same way I used to. So some of my drawings might look a little different until I figure this out our find a battery way. Argh, changes!)

Temper Tantrum
I love my pugs but sometimes they drive me crazy. I used to have a pretty bad temper which has calmed down for the most part but sometimes I just lose it and throw a temper tantrum.
Last night I fell asleep on my couch because I've been tired and stressed at work. I woke up at 2am, exhausted and cranky. I hurried to take the girls out for what I thought would be a quick pee. I was wrong.
Rosy did everything real fast, but Sunny refused to do anything and would barely move. After standing outside in the freezing winds, with my legs and fingers going numb Sunny started circling and then pooped. I totally didn't expect that so then I had to fumble with opening the poop bag all while angrily whispering "Come on, pee! Pee! Pee! Do your business!" The bag flew away and Sunny tried running back to my apartment and I just felt so tired and cold, I did an angry stomping dance, blinking away tears of frustration. Luckily no one was outside at that crazy late hour to witness me losing it like a little kid.
After a couple more minutes Sunny finally peed and we all ran back inside and tried to get a few hours of sleep before we'd have to wake up in the morning. Not my proudest moment of course but at least I can look back on it with humor. Seriously, I am done with these freezing temperatures, crazy wind chill, and poop AND pee strikes by Sunny.

Go Away Polar Vortex!
We all love a good snow day, but this polar vortex is out of control. Just stop it polar vortex. No one likes you. Sunny and Rosy are especially hating having to get decked out in their winter gear. Getting those stupid booties on their feet adds about 10 minutes to our walks!
I love winter usually with the cold brisk days, the warm yummy comfort foods, and the layers of clothes that hide my holiday weight gain. But I am not loving these freezing temperatures, chapped hands and lips, crazy commutes on the metro with cracked rails, and torturous walks with the girls that just lead to poop and sometimes pee strikes.
We're done with you polar vortex. DONE.
Go away polar vortex and don't come back! We don't don't want to ever see you again!
(If you're curious about where I got all the girls' winter gear, check out my new FAQs page here.)

Pug Grumble in the Wild
Sometimes I wonder whether my pugs have any wild survival instincts. I did a post a while ago about the hilarity of the idea of pugs descended from wolves (Pugs - Descended From Wolves?). Recently I was watching tv and there was a tiger on the screen. Rosy started growling and then tried attacking the tv. I really hope that if we ever come across a huge, deadly animal Rosy will not try to initiate an attack against it! So here's a drawing of a grumble of pugs in the wild, doing what they do best, lounging in the sun.

Stop!...It's Belly Rub Time!
I think every work day should incorporate pug belly rub breaks.
Sunny and Rosy are always very clear about when they want belly rubs. Sunny is especially dramatic with throwing herself back and belly up!
And while I don't usually draw the girls' "buttons," I couldn't resist here!

Fight or Flight...or Freeze
Whenever Sunny and Rosy see something new or another dog they love to freeze. If it's another dog Sunny will usually want to run to it after a second of freezing. But for strange objects like a snowman or construction truck she likes to freeze with one paw in the air. Like a pointer! Rosy's reaction is always the same. Freeze and then slowly sink to the ground and then go bananas (either in excitement or in fear/aggression). Weirdos.

Rough Week
It's been a bit of a rough week going back to work and having everything crazy busy. My natural introverted, antisocial, depressed, lazy, overeating, alcoholic, narcoleptic, and cranky tendencies are fighting each other for top spot. They're all winning at this point.
Well at least it's Friday. TGIF.

Stay Warm Out There!
Hope everyone is staying warm and indoors during this cold snap! Remember in these low temperatures dogs shouldn't be outside long and their paws will get very cold. I foresee a poop strike over the next 24 hours, and maybe even the elusive pee strike.
Join these lil cozy puggerpillars for a nap maybe?

Dancing Pugs, Begging Faces
Sometimes life imitates art but here art imitates life. Sunny and Rosy often jump up when they get excited for new toys and food, all while giving me the funniest and most adorable facial expressions! It works every time!

The Ways Pugs Lay
As a follow up to my post last week The Ways Pugs Sit, here are some of my favorite ways that my pugs lay. They range from the tight, tucked in lil pug loaf, to the sloppy splayed limbs sticking out poses. Lately Sunny and Rosy have been doing the pug pile a lot now that they've gotten closer and bonded (finally!). But I love all of these and the many more poses I didn't have room to fit onto the page!

Catch a Snowflake
This December has been snowier than the past couple ones we've had here. The girls and I enjoy watching the snow fall but we don't like all the salt, ice, and freezing temperatures.
With the way Sunny's and Rosy's tongues stick out, they're always catching snowflakes on their tongues!
Some winter photos below:

The Ways Pugs Sit
One of the many things I love about pugs is the funny way they sit. Sunny is a sloppy sloucher and slumper while Rosy is a tucked duck. Their sitting positions are both hilarious and adorable and here are just a few of my favorites.

Refrain
The only food my pugs definitely won't eat is any kind of leafy green. Sometimes out of desperation they'll try to eat a dropped spinach leaf or stray bit of lettuce, but they always promptly spit it out.

Fair Trade
I admit I sometimes dress my dogs up for my own personal amusement. But, they dress me in their fur every single day! They also decorate my apartment, my car, and even my workplace! (I'm like a bee pollinating the world with pug fur.)
So fair trade, right?

Snow Pugs
I imagine that pugs probably don't make very good snow angels. When I picture them wiggling on their backs, I think they probably would make better snowmen shapes than angel shapes. They're also very good at coloring snow a lovely shade of yellow.
