Spring Days

After a terrible spring intro with high winds, nonstop rain, and a bit of snow, we are all very happy to be entering into more mild spring weather!

I recently finally made the plunge and bought a drawing tablet (Wacom Intuos Pen and Touch Small Tablet) and have been experimenting with it. Below are a couple more I did with my new tablet:

I've discovered that nothing beats putting pen to paper for drawing, but I'm enjoying using it for coloring and enhancing pictures. It takes some getting used to though. I've been using the tablet with Corel Painter Essentials. Corel Painter offers the closest real life experience for using various mediums. I would've gotten a better version of Corel Painter, but (I'm almost too embarrassed to say this) I discovered I have an outdated Windows platform (Vista!). I only really use my computer for internet stuff so I totally forgot what platform I had and now it's gotten to the point where I'll probably get a new one sometime soon so what's the point of updating it now. Anyways, long story short - I'm having fun with my new Wacom tablet with Corel Painter Essentials. I'll still do black & white as my main style (color takes a lot longer and I'm so impatient) but I'll be experimenting more with color.

Horror upon horrors - I am cursed with an ear infection! I am now subjected to regular attacks by the human with those terrible ear drops. I try not to show weakness in front of Rosy but I can't resist scratching my itchy ear. Hopefully this ailment will pass quickly and I'll return to good health soon.

Dear Diary,

Uh oh! Sunny's got an ear infection! Her scratching and head shaking all the time is so annoying so I'll be glad when it's gone. Plus I love munching on her wonderfully velvety ears! I hope ear infections aren't contagious - I can't stand having any drops put into my ears and will clench them shut!

I wonder how Sunny's ear got infected???

Yesterday our human gave me and Rosy bully sticks.  She claims they were of equal size, but Rosy's definitely looked bigger!  As the alpha I should get the biggest and best of everything!

I tried stealing Rosy's away but I got reprimanded.

Dear Diary,

Yesterday Sunny and I got these delicious chews that our human calls bully sticks.

I HEART BULLY STICKS!

They are so yummy and fun to chew on!  I'd love to have one every day forever and ever but we only get them as special treats every now and then. 

Sunny kept trying to steal my bully stick.  I don't know why though since she had the bigger one!  As the younger sister and baby of the family I really think she should have offered me the bigger bully stick. I tried stealing hers away but she snapped at me.  Hmph!

Pugling Rivalry - Rosy's Diary Entry #4 (Early Wake-up Call)

Dear Diary,

This morning I really really really had to go outside to do my business.  You know those times when you have to go so badly it wakes you up?  Well the problem was everyone else was still asleep and snoring!  I tried waiting for as long as I could, but when you gotta go, you gotta go!  So I gently woke everyone up to let them know I had to go.

Sunny doesn't understand.  She's like a pee camel!  All she wants to do in the morning is sleep and sleep and sleep.

Pugling Rivalry - Sunny's Log Entry #4 (Early Wake-up Call)

This morning I was rudely awakened a full hour before normal wake-up.  In my old age I need a full night's sleep to be alert and ready during the day.  But Rosy had other plans and annoyingly woke everyone up early, claiming she had to immediately relieve herself outside.  That's what she said, but I noticed that as soon as we went outside she spent a good few minutes sniffing around and growling at other dogs instead of taking care of her business right away.  I call shenanigans!

Today Rosy snapped at a poor lil chihuahua for no reason!  RUDE.  I always like to meet neighbors and exchange pleasantries but I didn't even get a chance to say hello because of Rosy.  Of course I had to step in and regulate my spastic sister and so now my human is annoyed with both of us for acting out in public.  Sheesh, it's not my fault! I was trying to help control the situation!

Rosy is so mean and crazy.  At this rate, we won't make any new friends this year.

Dear Diary,

It wasn't my fault!!

Today this chihuahua kept staring and making mean faces at me as we tried to exit the building for our morning walk.  I really had to pee and this stupid huge chihuahua (he was as big as me!) was blocking our way and making fun of me.  Of course no one was looking and when I tried to get Sunny's attention she just ignored me and bumped me with her big ol butt.

I swear the chihuahua started crouching and growling and I just know he was getting ready to pounce so I had to defend myself!  That got Sunny's attention and of course she took the side of a complete stranger and snapped at me.  ME - HER OWN SISTER!  Our human got mad at both of us and was apologizing to the chihuahua's human.  Whatever!  It was his fault!

Dear Diary,

You know what I love almost as much as food and snuggles?  I LOVE TOYS!

We have so many different kinds of toys because the human is always bringing us more and Sunny and I share everything so we have double the number of toys!  My favorite thing to do is to run around with one in my mouth as I shake it around.  Then I like to find a quiet spot to chew away at it.  Some of these toys are filled with this crazy fun fuzzy stuff inside!  The human doesn't like it when I chew on the fuzzy stuff but that's what makes it even more fun!

It's been 508 days since the human brought home the annoying lil one she calls Rosy.  I'll never forget that day.  Before October 27, 2012, all was quiet and peaceful.  I never had to share any of my toys or treats.  I never had to compete for prime lap spot.  And I never had to worry about getting humped or having my back legs gnawed on.  Sometimes when Rosy is passed out from her latest manic frenzy, I like to close my eyes and think about the days when I was in a one-dog home.

Ready for Spring

I normally run hot and can't stand the hot and humid weather we get here in the DC area but even I am looking forward to spring! So when I heard there was a chance of snow next week, I shook my fist at winter. I love getting snow days and time off work but it's already mid March and we've all gotten used to the warmer weather. I refuse to wear tights again with my dresses for work! I'm sick of them! And Sunny and Rosy are most definitely done with winter and ready for spring! 

Friday Nights

Yay it's Friday!! I've never been a big Friday night party kind of person even when I was younger. By the time Friday rolls around I'm pooped and just want to relax. When I do go out I favor Saturdays or something mid-week to help get me through the work week until the weekend. I'm also an introvert so I already find most social activities draining so the last thing I want to do at the end of a draining work week on Friday is go out! I used to feel self conscious about my social life and what others may think, but now I don't care and Sunny and Rosy give me the perfect excuse to escape any unwanted invites!

Pugtoro

I'm a huge Miyazaki fan and so are my niece and nephew.  But when we first tried showing Totoro to them when they were young, my nephew got so scared of Totoro in that first scene when they come across him as he's sleeping!  We asked him what about him was so scary and he did his best to explain the workings of his lil new brain and said "He's so big and wriggly!"  I actually had to hide my dvd for a while and anytime he visited he would ask if the Totoro dvd was well hidden.  Now they love Totoro and have seen some other Miyazaki films (we have yet to show them Spirited Away (scary spirits!) or Princess Mononoke (definitely something for an older kid audience)). 

So here's a pug version of Totoro.  He has a more cat-like face, but his body always reminded me of a pug!  And instead of the lil cute dust balls, here we have pug fur balls.  Because let's be honest, all of us who have pugs (or other high-shedding pets) are quite familiar with chasing these lil fur balls with our high-powered vacuums.

Sunny and Rosy are beautiful on the outside and, after pushing past the layers of wrinkles, fur, and skin, on the inside!

Pug Voices

My two pugs are very vocal but in different ways. Sunny's a loud yawner (the sound she makes is out of control and always makes me laugh!) and likes to howl when excited. Rosy is a growler and barker (too many dogs in tv commercials!). Both are noisy snorers (Rosy is super loud!) and frequent tooters. All of their sounds make me smile or laugh, unless it's super late or early and I'm trying to sleep!
