So You Think You Want A Pug...

It always amazes me how many pugs are in rescues.  I think that a lot of times people get dogs without realizing all the ups and downs of having one.  I love all aspects of having Sunny and Rosy (well maybe not the nail trimmings so much), but there are definitely some more challenging/difficult parts.  So if you're thinking of having a pug because you think pugs are cute, just keep in mind a few of these things.

  1. From someone who runs a Pug rescue, I say thank you for today's post. Pugs are so very cute and they will entertain you for hours. But at the end of the day, pet ownership is a responsibility and a decision that should never be made lightly.

  2. My SousPug was a rescue and I can't imagine a day without him. He's been through some serious health issues but he's a senior pug and that's to be expected. Thank you so much for shedding a bit of light on everything that is to be expected when one brings a pug into their life. It's an investment of time, money but the unconditional love that you get from the pug - priceless :)

  3. Good job! The never eating in peace made me laugh - that is every meal at our house. Yes, pug and dog ownership is a very BIG commitment, and prospective pet owners need to understand the commitment from every perspective. :)

  4. I love ALL of your pug posts, but this one is soo true. I see so many senior pugs in pug rescue groups, and it's so heartbreaking that many owners "dump" their pugs when they get to that certain age where they are deemed "too old" so they're a "hassle" to take care of because of the health issues and they are no longer little fur balls of energy & playfulness. Argh! I get so mad! I'm going to continue loving (more like obsessing), care, and cherish my pug baby until the day he crosses the Rainbow Bridge! Being a dog parent requires more work and dedication than most people realize! Dogs aren't just pets. They are companions, and you don't treat your companions like trash!

  5. I adopted a ten year old pug last fall, to join my six year old pug, and it's one of the best things I ever did. I just hope he has a lot of years left, but however many there are I plan to use them fully.
