Introducing The Newbie - Rosy!

So I have some big news...this weekend I picked up a new addition to the family!  A 2 year-old female pug named Rosy!  I've actually been looking for another female pug for almost a year but have had bad luck and some disappointments.  The young ones go fast!  And I really wanted to get a young one so that there's a slight age gap with Sunny.  I stalked the local pug rescue's website and Petfinder every day and found Rosy at a rescue a few hours away.  I knew she was the one and a few days later I was making plans to drive over and pick her up and welcome her to my home!

Rosy is itty bitty!  And she's super fit and lean.  I'm hoping I can keep her that way but then again, look at Sunny and all her rolls.  Sigh, I'll try real hard!

Anyways, I wanted to do a quick illustration to welcome Rosy to Bah Humpug.  I find it funny how I'm such a pessimistic, cynical, grumpy person and yet I have dogs named Sunny and Rosy!  And they both came named that way!  They both had different spellings (Sunny was Sunni, and Rosy was Rosie) but still that's a weird coincidence!  I debated whether to change Rosie's name, but once I realized I could change the spelling to match Sunny's I knew it was meant to be.  They are after all the happy, bright moments of my days!
Bah Humpug(s)!

Why People Think I'm A Crazy Pug (Dog) Lady

There are a ton of reasons for why people think I'm a crazy pug (dog) lady.  In fact, I can probably stretch this out into at least a two-parter.  But here are just a handful of reasons.  It's ok, I've embraced the crazy pug (dog) lady in me.

Pug Action

A lot of people may think pugs are lazy and inactive.  That's just not true.  Some pugs are super active and athletic, but even the laziest pug is capable of some amazing acrobatics in certain circumstances.  Sunny probably sleeps about 80% of the day but for 20% of the day she's busy doing one of these (ok "strange sleeping positions" counts as both lazy and active because sometimes Sunny gets in some amazing yoga-like positions).  See, all pugs are at least somewhat active!  And with the right motivation (i.e., food), you can get a pug to do almost anything.

How My Pug Sees Me

My pug thinks that the whole world revolves around her and I am put on this earth to cater to her every whim and demand.  I think this every time she steals my seat, gives me the stink eye when I dare to disrupt her nap, and waits for me to lift her up onto the bed or into the car.  It's okay.  I've fully accepted that I am simply Sunny's servant.

Pug Blanket

This past weekend it got super cold and I was happy to have a fat, warm pug to keep my feet toasty. Like so:
Sunny exudes heat which is a blessing in the fall and winter but a curse in the spring and summer (especially with a leather couch, which is a necessity for any pug owner). So why not save on your heating bill this winter and invest in a pug blanket to keep you warm? Yes, it'll cost a lot to keep up with their food demands and your home will be covered in fur and stink like pugs. But, on the other hand, you'll have multiple adorable pugs who all adore you. Good luck in the summer though - you'll need to crank up that a/c!

Pug Emotions (Wrinkles And Ears Version)

A while ago I did a drawing of pug emotions that focused on the tail. But pugs' faces can be very expressive, especially their wrinkles, eyes, and ears! So here's a quick drawing I did showing another aspect of pug emotions. Sorry I haven't been posting as much lately. It's a combination of drawer's block and getting really busy at work and other projects. I hope to post more often soon!

Sweater Season

Ah sweater season is soon approaching! One of Sunny's least favorite times of the year is when I bring out her sweaters and coats. She doesn't like wearing sweaters, and yet she looks so cute in them! If I ever get a puppy I will get it used to wearing cute clothes early!

Every #@*&# Rainy Day

Luckily Sunny is very well housebroken, but I sense this must be what she thinks every rainy day. Sigh. This pug does not like getting wet.

Autumn

Sunny and I are both relieved that the temperatures have been dropping here and are looking forward to fall! But please no more severe thunderstorms with tornado warnings. Aren't tornadoes supposed to only be in Kansas and Texas? (All of my weather knowledge comes from tv (e.g, Texas - King of the Hill) and movies (e.g, Kansas - The Wizard of Oz).

Really? That's Comfortable??

I always find it funny how many uncomfortable looking positions pugs find comfortable.  Really?  It's just another one of their lovable quirks!

Random Things I Don't Love About My Pug

And with the sweet, comes the sour. Here are a few things about Sunny that I DON'T love.

Random Things I Love About My Pug

I am a big fan of loving the little moments in life.  In fact I generally often get so bogged down in details, I miss the big picture.  While Sunny generally lights up my life (hehe), there are a bunch of little things she does that I especially love or that make me chuckle out loud.  Seeing as how popular my previous multi-pictured posts were, I thought I'd do one from my point of view.  So here's a sample of some of the random things I love about my pug, Sunny.  Some of these are similar to past drawings I've done, but I wanted to include them because they really are my favorite things about Sunny right now!  So take a moment to appreciate the little cute, funny, and lovable things your dog does.

Advanced Begging For Food

When I first got Sunny she didn't finish her meals and seemed disinterested in food.  I think she was nervous and adjusting to the change because now she's a total food obsessed monster!  She has various tactics she uses depending on the moment for begging for food.  She's managed to narrow them to a few effective options.  Tonight she's using the licking the empty food bowl any time we're both in the kitchen.

While I Was Reading...

I've been going through a bit of a drawer's block, which happens to me every now and then. I try to not let it bother me and just wait it out. The last thing I want to do is bring stress and anxiety to something I started for a fun escape. So other than singing to Sunny, I've been doing other things more, including lots of reading. Recent reads I really enjoyed were Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Cloud Atlas. And so I decided to draw today exactly what I've been doing lately - reading "with" Sunny!

Sunny doesn't mind my reading habit so long as I lay on my couch Cleopatra style so she can sleep on top of my hip and waist. I'm totally destroying my body alignment and hips all for the sake of Sunny's comfort. Sunny loves to sleep on top of me, kicking her back leg over me and leaving little drool marks on my arm. And for those who follow me on Facebook, Tumblr, and/or Instagram, you'll notice I'm leaning on the oh so popular pug pillow that Sunny and I fight over.

Haute Carlin Couture

This is like a combination of two great and fearsome animated enemies to animals - Cruella de Vil and Elmyra Duff from Tiny Toons. Or like a female version of Tarzan who was raised by pugs.

This is how I would do pug high fashion. Just have the designer drape a bunch of wiggly cute pugs and pug puppies on me. Then when no one's looking I run away and keep all the cute pugs for myself. I'm beginning to think I have so far crossed the crazy pug lady line I can't even see it behind me anymore.

Surroundings

There have been so many times I've had to pull away Sunny quickly while she's sniffing the ground or another dog's butt to avoid getting her peed on. Sometimes she's so clueless she needs my help.

Back To School

At this rate there won't be any books or papers left in the pug school!

Beat Me To The Punch

This is the idiom I mangled the worst and I did this at work too! I started to say this idiom but at the same time my brain was shouting, "Whoa! Stop! You don't know how this sentence ends!" And yet I stumbled forward and mumbled, "Oh, you beat me to the...uh...the um...time...frame? Yeah, not even close. And this was in a voice message so the recipient of this horrible message can replay it over and over again while laughing and mocking my stupidity.

This is a perfect example of how I keep forgetting idioms and yet as I'm talking my tongue is trying to let them slip out but my brain just isn't fast enough to stop it.

This idiom is weird anyways. Why would you want to beat me to the punch? Unless we're talking about fruit punch. With some chips and cookies.

Putting Your Foot In Your Mouth

And now I'm back to doing idioms. As in my conversations with other people, I can never resist an idiom that pops into my head. But unlike in my conversations, I usually don't mangle the idioms in my drawings (mostly because I Google them beforehand to make sure I got them right).

So here's putting your foot in your mouth, which I do all too often, but slightly less as I get older and try to think more before speaking. Sunny also puts her foot (paw) in her mouth all the time. Literally. These late summer allergies have her licking her paws a lot.

A Pug's Least Favorite Things

After seeing the popularity of my recent posts, A Pug's Favorite Things and A Pug's Favorite Things, Part II, I thought it might be fun to do a least favorite things version.  It's amazing how so many pugs like the same things so I'm curious to see if other pugs out there hate the same things that Sunny hates.
