I fight back and cover myself with pugs!
Last night I was watching a King of the Hill rerun where they discover Kahn's manic depressive when after a crazed manic phase of building a mega grill with Hank, they find Kahn curled up in a fetal position in his dark house as he mutters, "Sadness cover me like a blanket. Tuck me in. Let me die." I find this scene hilarious and yet it accurately captures what depression feels like with three simple lines.
I often feel down sometimes for real and specific reasons but sometimes for no solid reason at all. When this happens I try to focus on the little things that make me feel happy each day. The one thing that always makes me feel better no matter what is spending time with my pugs, Sunny and Rosy. Even though they both came prenamed (with different spellings) their names really are perfect because they make everything seem sunnier and rosier!
Love the analogy with the names! Dogs definitely have a way of making everything better... wish I could take mine to work - then I'd have a great day everyday!
ReplyDeleteDogs have a way of knowing when you need them. Whenever I am feeling badly, my boys Mason and Eddie are stuck to me like glue. They are the best medicine. :)
ReplyDeleteEven when she's mad at me, Lola still knows when I need a cuddle. She'll cuddle up but won't make eye contact or give me kisses. But she will let me pet her and cuddle so the happy is there.
ReplyDeletei have depression all my life , although it has not over run me it has discolored my world . i have not self actualized and sometimes i think it is too late. I have two kitties and a fat pug and boy that sure helps!! i love your blog and posts so keep it up for me at least!!!
ReplyDeleteYour drawings are amazing and so inpsiring. You should make prints or a book!
ReplyDeleteI would be lost without my pug. Thank you for being able to draw what I cannot.
ReplyDeleteThis is so very true. Scarlet is the best hug I could ever ask for.

I often feel down too, and there is nothing like animal therapy (pug, cat, horse) to make me feel better. :)
ReplyDelete"Sadness cover me like a blanket." What a powerful statement. There's nothing like pug-snuggles to chase away the blues.

I admire your drawings. They are so funny and convey a lot of emotions regarding pugs. I don't have a pug and will probably never have one - but whatever dog I have, I hope it will make make my life as great as yours :-)
ReplyDeleteMy life won't be the same without my pugs. They do make our lives sunnier and rosier : )
ReplyDeleteMy pugs have made me a better more patient person. Each are rescues. One a puppy mill survivor the other two lived with severe neglect. To see each of them overcome / deal daily with their issues has made me reflect on how well I deal with my issues....everyday I count my blessing....my three pugs are on the top of my list of my blessings.
ReplyDeletei love this! i'm sorry you were feeling down, but you have helped me with my depression with your insights and support. doughy says she loves you and would love to be the third pug to sit on your head, to cover the darkness. xoxo.
ReplyDeleteyour blog is faboulose! I'll post your creations on my facebook ;) i'll pubbliceze you to my friends! Enjoy...Pugjoy ;)
